THE GARDENS
The newly landscaped garden, designed by Stephen Suzman of Suzman and Cole, is laid out in a formal pattern to harmonize with the Beaux Arts architecture of the house. A limestone terrace, surrounded by a parapet wall, rests atop the new garage, and a walkway connects this terrace with the dining room terrace, the Carriage House garden and the west-facing shade garden.
A stone terrace at the rear entry is set off with orangerie boxes. Shade plants such as huechera, star jasmine, ferns and ground covers fill in with rich greens and white flowers. The lawn and terraces are ideal for outdoor entertaining. Newly fashioned stone pillars frame an iron gate, which has been modeled to match the other wrought iron that decorates the windows and railings of the house.
